Olympics 2008 Online Traffic Results
WebTrends findings during the Beijing Olympics show that CCTV.com, China’s largest online broadcaster, surpassed that of NBC, US’s leading broadcaster, in terms of online traffic.
Over 100 million unique visitors were recorded to have checked CCTV.com during the 2008 Beijing Olympics. WebTrends confirmed there were more than six million daily unique visitors on the average. NBC on the other hand, reported only an average of over 4.3 million. Yahoo! online video coverage gathered 4.7 million, as stated by media accounts.
Alex Yoder, CEO of WebTrends, said that Beijing Olympics has marked the start of China’s Internet era and that CCTV.com provided the right content at the right time for a large and ever-growing online audience thereby attracting more than 100 million online visitors for the Olympic Games.
WebTrends Analytics analysis emphasized an increase of 2.5 minutes on the average time a visitor stays on CCTV.com, nearing 11.5 minutes during the Olympics. Number of visits, about 8.5 million, was highest during the opening ceremonies, August 8; second and third when the Chinese athlete Liu Xiang was scheduled to race in the 110 meter hurdles, Aug. 9 and 18, respectively.
